Welcome from the Leader and Chief Executive
These are exciting times at Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP), with Local Government reorganisation representing significant opportunities for growth and transformation. We have an opportunity to make our thriving, world-class area a prosperous and inclusive place for generations to come. The challenge for our new Director of Children’s Services is to shape an innovative service that safeguards children and young people, and supports families and communities to build resilience.
Our vision is to create a place of aspiration where plans are made and ambitions are achieved, most of all for our young people. We want to create a healthy and vibrant place where everyone feels a part of the future that BCP is trying to create and where staff can do their best work and have fulfilling careers.
There really is no better time to join what will become one of the UK’s largest unitary authorities in an area of outstanding natural beauty. This is a career defining role for the right individual to transform and improve services and provide exemplary strategic leadership to ensure the needs of our children, young people and families are understood and they are safe, healthy and able to share in our positive vision.
This will be a challenging role, and whilst we live in a visually stunning area with great schools, two expanding universities and have a thriving local economy, there remain a large number of children, young people and families that are living in hardship and at risk of abuse and exploitation. We have a duty to provide the support and care that they need. It is also a multi-cultural area with growing numbers of asylum seeking and unaccompanied young people coming to the area via the port of Poole and by other means. We have developed some innovative ways of responding through our partnerships and our services but we need to do more to meet the complex challenges.
If you are committed and driven to improve the quality of life for individuals and communities and can translate your experience, ideas and passion to drive forward this incredible opportunity to shape a new children’s service, then we want to hear from you.
