These are exciting times at Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP), with local government reorganisation representing significant opportunities for growth and transformation. We have an opportunity to make our thriving, world-class area a prosperous and inclusive place for generations to come.

The challenge for the new Director of Destination & Culture is to shape an innovative service and lead on the delivery of BCP’s visitor economy, cultural and leisure strategies, and play a central part in shaping the tourism offer for our city region. As well as managing our tourism offer, you will lead the Libraries Service, Dorset Adult Learning Service, the Events team and cultural venues such as Upton House, Highcliffe Castle and the Russell-Cotes Museum and Art Gallery. You will also lead large scale capital programmes to expand opportunity and economic wellbeing across all our communities and extend our international reach as a tourism, cultural and business destination.

BCP is currently undertaking a Cultural Enquiry with the Arts Council, Arts University Bournemouth and our other key cultural organisations. This is an exciting phase of cultural development providing you with the opportunity to contribute and influence the development of a long-term vision for culture at the heart of our city region. Our vision is to create a place of aspiration where plans are made, and ambitions are achieved. A healthy and vibrant place where everyone feels a part of the future BCP Council is trying to create and where staff can do their best work and have fulfilling careers. We want to increase public participation in creative activity, connect more residents with the area’s heritage and foster a cultural ecosystem capable of supporting the development and practices of local artists and musicians.

There really is no better time to join one of the UK’s largest unitary authorities, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. This is a career defining role for the right individual to transform and improve services and provide exemplary strategic leadership to create a world-class environment, strong employment growth and an outstanding culture and tourism offer across the BCP region as a premier destination on the south coast.
